Conclusion

When people read the Old Testament without understanding its purpose, they often walk away believing God was harsh, cruel, or even evil.

But what if they have misunderstood the story?

What if the Old Testament was never meant to show us what God is like apart from Jesus, but what humanity is like apart from God?

What if every war, every judgment, every sacrifice, every failure, every law, every prophet, every king, every flood, every exile, and every death was revealing one simple truth:

Life cannot exist apart from the One who is Life.

God was not trying to satisfy His anger.

He was trying to awaken humanity.

He was exposing the consequences of rejecting Him so that when Jesus came, we would finally understand why we needed Him.

Without the Old Testament, we would never understand the cross.

Without the Law, we would never understand grace.

Without judgment, we would never appreciate mercy.

Without death, we would never long for eternal life.

The Bible is not two different stories about two different Gods.

It is one story.

From Genesis to Revelation, God has been doing one thing:

Calling His children home.
